Current research in our lab concerns teaching and learning in music and visual arts education, along with student projects in weight bias.
Jill is always interested to hear from Siena students who are interested in committing to a research assistant position (for independent study credit or as a Summer Scholar through CURCA), mainly for projects in arts education or weight bias.
Motivated high school students looking for research experience and PreK-12 arts teachers who would like to collaborate on action-research should also get in touch with Jill through the Contact form!

Current Lab Members
Jill Hogan, Ph.D.
Principal Investigator
Jill started working at Siena College in 2021. She's not sure yet what she wants to be when she grows up, but she knows that she likes to teach and do research.
When not doing those things, she likes to read non-fiction, improve her Spanish, nap, visit farmers markets, recommend to you to try therapy, hang out with her cats (Ernie, Gemma, and Jimmy), play the piano (poorly), and hyperfixate on the interest of the moment.
She fulfills all stereotypes you have about people from Massachusetts, and is unafraid to admit that she embodies "research as me-search."

Jillian Barend
Research Assistant Psychology Major, Class of 2025 Study: Discussion of Weight in Developmental Psychology Textbooks After finishing her college education, Jillian hopes to work as a sports psychologist or become a psychology professor. Working on this project gave Jillian the opportunity to learn about the research process as well as apply skills learned in her psychology classes at Siena College. From working with Dr. Hogan Jillian learned a great deal about the issues of weight bias in the country, and also how to navigate a complicated research study. Jillian is on the Division 1 women’s golf team at Siena, but when she is not practicing or studying she loves reading, listening to music, taking photos, and spending time with friends and family. |
Lucy Rosser
Research Assistant Psychology Major, Class of 2026 Study: Using Reality Television in Art Classrooms Lucy wishes to continue her studies in graduate school in hopes of earning her PsyD and becoming a clinical psychologist. Working on this project gave Lucy the opportunity to learn effective research skills that she will be able to apply to future psychology classes and work. Lucy is on Siena’s Women’s Club Soccer team and enjoys watching tv, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family. |
Allison Thornschmidt
Research Assistant Psychology Major, Class of 2023 Russell Sage College Master's student Study: Discussion of Weight in Developmental Psychology Textbooks Allison wishes to continue her studies in graduate school in hopes of becoming a psychologist in coming years. Thus far, working on this research project has been amazing to work on, as it has broadened her perspective on how misunderstood the correlation between weight and health is in our society. She's looking forward to furthering this research! |
